10 Podcasts for a Working + Learning Girlie

Check out my 10 favorite recent podcast series/episodes for walks, commutes, dishes, etc.! Comment with your favorites, too – I’m always looking for recommendations!
- Shein Trouble from Today, Explained: Such a fascinating look into fast fashion and the fashion industry as a whole. I thought it was particularly interesting to hear companies like Vogue placing blame on brands like Shein for making poor quality replicas of runway trends without accepting any responsibility for constantly creating trends in the first place which then pressures us all to buy more. I don’t personally shop at Shein nor would I encourage anyone to support them because they’re shady and wasteful AF. On the other hand, I think the leaders in fashion could be doing a lot more to promote slow fashion and less consumption. And on the third hand I don’t have, I still absolutely love seeing trends and my love of fashion is strong. A lot of hands for a lot of thoughts.
- James Clear on “Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones” on The Next Chapter by American Express Business Class: I LOVE James Clear’s book and will tell literally anyone who will listen to read it. It can be truly lifechanging! This podcast discussion was a refreshing updated take on the book with some seriously helpful tips.
- The Daily (series): A favorite of mine for years because it breaks down one current event, this podcast is a staple on my daily walks. It expands my mind to think about things I would otherwise never consider!
- The Trojan Horse Affair (series): I think I’m like, 5 years late to the party on this one, but this is such a fascinating series from start to finish. There are so many twists and turns, and the journalists offer two really enlightening and informative perspectives about race (specifically Islamophobia).
- Agee Gretta Leinberry & Caroline Gilroy, Founders of Couper, on Launching an E-Commerce Brand and Building it from the Ground Up from How’d She Do That?: One of the founders of this brand went to my high school and both women are from Raleigh, which makes this brand extra fun (not to mention that the collections are incredible)! I loved hearing about their journey to starting the business and doing generally badass, girl boss things. Let’s go girls!
- Heal Your Gut: Dr. Alan Desmond on Optimizing Your Microbiome through Plants from The Rich Roll Podcast: This episode has the ability to be transformative for your health and wellbeing because it creates such an important baseline understanding of the microbiome and why it matters. It’s one to revisit again and again. Can’t recommend it enough!
- Office Ladies (series): If you haven’t heard of this series, you might not be getting out enough. It’s the best breakdown of a show I’ve heard. Although, perhaps an even better recap podcast in terms of offering the best life advice is The Good Place, the Podcast (the show The Good Place is also probably my favorite TV series of all time). I’d recommend Kristen Bell’s and Mike Shur’s episodes in particular.
- Mind Your Hormones (series): Just recently getting back into this one after listening to it regularly when I was transitioning off of hormonal birth control! Corinne Angelica is a wealth of knowledge and her holistic approach to hormone health is relatable and realistic. A real winner!
- The Money Pit Home Improvement Podcast (series): I’m just starting this podcast and loving it so far! I hadn’t thought of podcasts in terms of DIY home projects because my first line of defense when I’m in over my head (which is often) is YouTube, but this series takes a broader and super helpful approach to tackling home improvement projects with a practical, financially sound, and confident mindset.
- The Retrievals (series): Note that I definitely would add a trigger warning to this for anyone who is trying to conceive, because it might be traumatic. This was a shocking, horrifying series that makes you straight up angry. At the same time, it offers an absolutely fascinating peek into women’s fertility, healthcare, and pain. In the end I took away that we women are strong, mighty, and not to be truffled with (thanks, Michael Scott, for that gem).
